I write this post while my right eye has a hazy vision. It can’t make out the letters on its own. Left eye is better!
Last Friday, I woke up with red eyes, a first for me. My eyes were always perfect, I grew up watching TV from 1 feet away (no remotes then), in-spite of all the abuse and neglect, I never had an issue.
I assumed my eyes were red because of lack of sleep. My colleagues were saying the same, it looked like I was up all night. I was (almost). But that didn’t go away over the weekend. An emergency student doctor advised me to take drops. This looked like a case of Conjunctivitis.
It’s been 3 days, things were the same, I was skipping work to take rest and to stop any spread of this infection.
Sitting at home, I was bored. I missed filling up my timesheet 😉
Back to Work
I decided to go to work anyway. My eyes “looked” better and it would be fun scaring folks with my red eyes 🙂
Well I did get a “cautious” response. While most guys were sympathetic, they wanted me to take rest at home. Some, actually stepped back to a safer distance, while they talked to me.
Like this guy, who came to ask something
“Hey Keshav! I need something”
“Yeah, whats up?” (I turn around)
“Hey. What happened to your eyes?”
“Uh..nothing. A small problem.”
(Guy takes two steps back)
“Yeah..so I wanted to ask …. …”
I left work and came back home. I’m an untouchable or unseeable dude. Guys refuse to remove their eye glasses near me, my sister refuses to sit next to me for lunch, mom has designated two water bottles for me and I can’t touch the others. Sucks! (Please add a sympathy comment :-))
Apparently, I can’t watch TV, computer or even read books. WTF am I supposed to do?
But here is the scary part, what about people who are blind? I can’t even imagine their plight in this world. Forget about watching TV, reading books, driving a bike, they can’t even see kids playing or flowers or the sunrise.
We are so lucky. I need to put up my eyes for donation and so should YOU! I will walk in to LV Prasad eye hospital tomorrow for a check-up. I will get more details about this.
Can you imagine how happy you will make another human being if you give your eyes? I think it will help two blind persons, each will get one of your eyes.
Ahh! to get a glimpse of this tiny world in this vast universe…..
Think about it.
I enrolled myself as a future donor while waiting for my eye check-up. Bad news is that my red eye will continue for another week. At least I get to scare more people.
